Rock Vibrations Entrevista : Terra IncΩgnita

Em mais uma grande oportunidade que tivemos para uma entrevista internacional, recebi a chance de falar com o músico Billy Vass (do grupo grego Terra IncΩgnita)...

1 - Como a banda começou?
R: A banda foi iniciada por 4 músicos tocando covers em 2010-11.
Nós rapidamente percebemos que tocar a música de outros povos não era satisfatório ... então, colocamos todas as nossas idéias musicais juntas, e um ano depois, o material para o nosso primeiro LP, "Barren Land", foi escrito.

2 - A escolha do nome e a direção das músicas vieram naturalmente? Você poderia nos contar sobre esse processo?
R: O nome do álbum, "Fragments of a Ruined Mind" foi bem fácil de ser feito, pois sabíamos que estávamos escrevendo um álbum conceitual... todas as músicas são memórias, basicamente, de uma vida que já existiu pelo nosso anti-herói, Strahd.

Esses "fragmentos" em sua mente destruída são as músicas que você ouve.

O processo era clássico, eu acho que... a banda se reuniria em nosso estúdio de ensaio, e trocaria idéias umas com as outras... quando algo "ficasse", eu escreveria a expressão lírica do que estava acontecendo na mente de Strahd..

3 - A produção do álbum "Fragments Of A Ruined Mind" é impecável ... Como foi o processo de criação?
R: Bem, é impecável, (e, obrigado por dizer isso), por causa da magia que nosso produtor, Bob Katsionis, lançou em nosso material...

Ele é uma grande parte do nosso som.
Ele sabia exatamente qual direção queríamos que esse álbum conceitual levasse.

Nós iríamos para o estúdio dele gravar, em estado de espírito "cru", e ele apenas elevaria o material de um modo "tridimensional"... como eu disse ... Magia.

4 - Como você conseguiu um som que é tão único e ao mesmo tempo misturado a várias vertentes do Metal?
R: O som estranho, mas de alguma forma compatível que temos, é devido às origens musicais muito diferentes de que todos nós derivamos...
Você pode ouvir isso em nossa música.

Às vezes é difícil misturá-las todas juntas e, outras vezes, apenas se juntam.
Acreditamos que temos uma "fórmula" entre nós, musicalmente, que permite que todas as nossas influências brilhem em nossa escrita.

5 - A audiência e a resposta da mídia ao álbum foram boas?E, na sua concepção, ele apresenta o que você queria durante a produção?
R: As audiências, tanto nos nossos shows ao vivo quanto naquelas que ouvem este álbum, estão emocionadas com este material.
Tem sido incrível ouvir todo o feedback positivo dos fãs de metal.

Quanto à mídia, tudo o que posso dizer é que em todas as resenhas de álbuns que recebemos, (cerca de 40) nunca pontuamos abaixo de 85% ...
Não é ruim...

6 - Para você, qual é o principal fator de evolução após esse retorno da banda?
R: O principal fator, para evoluir esta banda, vendo que eu sou o único membro original restante, está tentando misturar o "novo" com o "antigo".

Não podemos esquecer que a música que tocamos e escrevemos é heavy metal melódico. Tendo isso em mente, estaremos sempre procurando maneiras de escrever material novo, mantendo-nos fiéis às nossas influências.

7 - Você quer lançar mais vídeos musicais ou até mesmo lyric vídeos?
R: Nós gostaríamos de liberar qualquer coisa que nossa gravadora (Symmetric Records) nos permitir (risos)...
Qualquer coisa, para deixar a banda exposta, para quantos metalheads pudermos.

8 - Você deve saber que eu sou do Brasil, então eu te pergunto ... Você gostaria de um dia poder tocar aqui ou mesmo na América do Sul? Nós temos fãs apaixonados pela vertente!
R: Gostaríamos de tocar no Brasil !!!!
Eu acho que uma turnê pela América do Sul seria ótima para nós.

9 - Sabemos que o Streaming é uma plataforma predominante atualmente, mas, até que ponto isso pode fazer com que a mídia física perca seu valor?
Um dia o Streaming será único?
R: Eu penso demais em alguma coisa, é só um exagero...
A era digital foi longe em alguns casos, na minha opinião, mas como tudo na vida, precisamos equilibrar tudo...

10 - Por fim, gostaria de deixar uma mensagem?
R: Muito obrigado a todos vocês, por aproveitarem o tempo para aprender sobre o Terra IncΩgnita !!
Esperamos vê-lo algum dia, em uma turnê, e lembre-se sempre, de "SIGN WITH BLOOD"!

In another great opportunity that we had for an international interview, I got the chance to speak with the musician Billy Vass (from the Greek group Terra IncÔgnita).

Check below the chat with the singer :

1 - How was the band started?
The band was started by 4 musicians playing covers, back in 2010-11. We quickly realized that playing other peoples music wasn't satisfying..... so, we put all our musical ideas together, and a year later, the material for our first L.P. ,"Barren Land" was written.

2 - Did the choice of name and the direction of the songs come naturally? Could you tell us about this process?
The name of the album, "Fragments of a Ruined Mind" was pretty easy to come up with, because we knew we where writing a concept album..... all the songs are memories, basically, of a life once lived by our anti-hero, Strahd.

These "fragments" in his destroyed mind, are the songs you hear.
The process was classic, I guess..... the band would get together in our rehearsal studio, and bounce ideas off each other..... when something "stuck", I would write the lyrical expression of what was happening in Strahd mind....

3 - The production of the album "Fragments Of A Ruined Mind" is impeccable ... How was the creation process?
Well,, it's impeccable, (and, thank you for saying so), because of the magic that our producer, Bob Katsionis released on our material....He is a huge part of our sound. He knew exactly which direction we wanted this concept album to take.
We would go in to his studio to record, in a "raw" state of mind, and he would just elevate the material in a "3 dimensional" kind of way..... like I said.....Magic.

4 - How did you achieve a sound that is so unique and at the same time blended into several strands of Metal?
The strange, but somehow compatible sound we have is due to the very diffrent musical backgrounds we all stem from.... You can hear it in our music. Sometimes its difficult to blend them all together, and other times, it just comes together.
We believe we have a "formula" between us, musically, that lets all our influences, shine in our writing.

5 - Has the audience and media response to the album been good? And, in your design, does it present what you wanted during production?
The audiences, both at our live shows and those that listen to this album, are thrilled with this material. It's been awesome to hear all the positive feedback from metal fans.
As for the media, all I can say is that in all the album reviews we have recieved, (about 40) we never scored lower than 85%.....
Not bad....

6 - For you, what is the main factor of evolution after this return of the band?
The main factor, for evolving this band, seeing that I am the only remaining original member, is trying to blend the "new" with the "old".
Lets not forget, that the music we play and write, is melodic heavy metal.

Keeping that in mind, we will always be looking for ways to write fresh material, while keeping true to our influences.....

7 - Do you want to release more music videos or even lyric videos?
We would like to release anything our record label (Symmetric records) allows us to!! Haha,,,,,

Anything, to get the band exposed, to as many metalheads as we can.

8 - You must know that I am from Brazil, so I ask you ... Would you like to one day be able to play here or even in South America? We have passionate fans for the slope! Do you know any Brazilian Rock / Metal bands?
We would LOVE to play in Brazil.!!!!
I think a tour of south America would be great for us.

9 - We know that Streaming is a predominant platform nowadays, but, to what extent can this cause the physical media to lose its value? Will one day Streaming be unique?
I think too much of anything, is just overkill...
The digital era has gone to far in some cases, in my opinion, but just like everything in life, we need to balance it all out....

10 - Finally, would you like to leave a message?
Thank you all, so much for taking the time to learn about Terra IncΩgnita!!
We hope to see you some day, on a tour, and always remember, to "SIGN WITH BLOOD"!
