Conhecer novos projetos e poder ter a oportunidade de mostrar para alguém é algo muito bom e desafiador, você passa por um teste e a banda também se envolve nesse processo, mas como estamos aqui para divulgar, isso acaba sendo parte da estratégia e do poder que as mídias possuem para que vocês conheçam materiais novos.
Abaixo, você pode conferir a conversa que tivemos com o líder do projeto Moonscape, Håvard Lunde, falamos sobre várias coisas legais do seu álbum recém lançado, entre outras coisas e curiosidades.
1. Antes de começar, eu quero saber como tem sido trabalhar em meio à pandemia e essas adversidades que aconteceram ao redor do mundo?você já precisou interromper todas as tarefas com o Moonscape?
Para ser totalmente honesto, não teve um grande impacto no processo, além de ter que encontrar um substituto para um cantor que deveria aparecer no álbum, mas teve que perder sua aparência devido ao fato de que o estúdio que ele usa para gravar suas faixas foi colocado sob um bloqueio, então ele foi processado incapaz de gravar suas faixas.
Como o novo álbum já estava mais ou menos pronto quando toda essa pandemia começou, tive a oportunidade de escrever, gravar e lançar uma faixa acústica que saiu em maio, bem como algumas covers que apareceram no "Resurgence EP" em setembro.
2. O último lançamento é incrível e trouxe uma grande peça de metal técnico com boas melodias.
O que você pode nos dizer sobre o processo de criação e produção?devo dizer que está ótimo.
Muito obrigado! O processo típico de escrita é como qualquer outro, eu acho. Sento-me no meu pequeno estúdio e começo a tocar, tentando criar riffs e melodias que sinto que podem formar uma boa base para algo que pode ficar ainda melhor mais tarde. Para mim, tudo se resume a fazer boas ideias funcionarem bem juntas.
Visto que este álbum é uma continuação da estreia ("Entity") de 2017, eu queria revisitar algumas das ideias desse álbum, para tentar juntar os dois álbuns, musicalmente, liricamente e conceitualmente.
O primeiro é mais baseado na atmosfera, e este novo é um pouco mais direto, mas acho que eles funcionam muito bem juntos. Esta também foi a primeira vez que mixei um álbum, então fiquei um pouco apreensivo sobre como seria recebido, mas o feedback geral até agora tem sido ótimo.
3. Você só tem 4 faixas disponíveis e todas foram incríveis, têm uma dinâmica legal e momentos criativos.
Você já imaginou criar mais faixas ou apenas estas foram trabalhadas e divulgadas?
Minha abordagem é talvez um pouco incomum, mas se tornou uma maneira muito confortável de criar meu material. Eu escrevo e gravo tudo como uma faixa contínua no início, o que significa que basicamente estou fazendo apenas uma música por álbum.
Foi assim que "Entity" foi feito, e também foi a abordagem que usei neste novo álbum, exceto pela pequena introdução sinfônica.
Sou um grande fã de composições em larga escala, então não me importaria de ter esse álbum tocando apenas como uma faixa também, mas eu já tinha feito isso na estreia, então acabei dividindo em três faixas mais a introdução.
Acho que funcionou bem.
Durante a produção deste álbum, decidi que queria lançar um EP como uma espécie de teaser para o novo álbum, então eu senti que havia espaço para algo um pouco diferente.
Gravei algumas canções cover e perguntei a David Åkesson (Qantice) se ele gostaria de cantar nelas e ele pareceu adorar a ideia. Uma delas era uma versão cover de "Thunderstorm" de Domine, e a outra era minha opinião sobre "Fairytale", o vencedor do Eurosong de 2009.
Essas duas, mais a faixa acústica mencionada foram as únicas outras canções feitas durante este período de gravação.
4. Não posso deixar de falar sobre a bela arte que acompanha o disco, e aproveitando, quais são os principais conceitos dessas faixas?e qual a ligação com a arte criada?
"Entity" contou a história de uma pessoa que se encontra incapaz de viver no mundo real como o conhecemos, e se fecha cada vez mais fundo nos cantos escuros de sua própria mente, como uma fuga da realidade.
Ele encontra abrigo e segurança em sua própria escuridão pessoal, mas eventualmente é pego por um demônio há muito esquecido que estava à espreita em seu subconsciente. Para resumir, é uma história sobre isolamento, superação de seus demônios e tentativa de encontrar um caminho para sair da escuridão e voltar à vida.
Como o novo título do álbum indica parcialmente, é a continuação da história de "Entity", mas com uma pequena reviravolta.
Existem algumas experiências pessoais escritas na história também, mas os eventos na história não são inteiramente biográficos.
"Illusion or Reality" é a minha versão da jornada que começou com o testemunho de um parente próximo ser atingido por uma doença grave, passando por essa batalha com eles e, finalmente, vê-los desaparecer.
As duas faixas finais são sobre superar perdas e, mais uma vez, tentar encontrar um caminho de volta à vida.
O significado por trás da obra de arte tem dois lados, uma é a ideia de olhar para a mente da mesma forma que olhamos para o espaço. Sabemos que o espaço ainda tem muitas áreas que ainda não exploramos, mas o que acontece se continuarmos explorando a mente?
O que vamos descobrir? Esse é um pensamento interessante, se você me perguntar.
O outro reflete mais sobre partes do título do álbum, uma "distopia cognitiva" é uma descrição adequada para o espaço escuro em que o protagonista se encontrou no primeiro álbum, e a parte dos "ecos" pode indicar que ele tem alguns negócios inacabados.
O resto fica por conta do ouvinte interpretar.
5. Você pretende trabalhar em promoções mais visuais, como vídeos que possam inserir ainda mais o público em sua imersão musical?
O pensamento passou pela minha cabeça várias vezes, mas é aí que você percebe a desvantagem de ter músicas de 17 minutos, haha !
Eu adoraria ver isso acontecer, mas acho que é um conceito um pouco desafiador para embarcar. Alguém me disse que o conceito daria um ótimo filme, então talvez eu devesse pensar em fazer isso, haha!
6. Você já pode ter uma noção de como são as repercussões após o lançamento?está feliz com o que está vendo no cenário atual?
Recebi ótimos feedbacks sobre o álbum e parece que está indo muito bem. Muitas pessoas comentaram sobre "Illusion or Reality", porque percebem que há muitas emoções ali, e acho que é isso que agarra o ouvinte com mais eficácia.
Tive uma boa quantidade de streams no Spotify e um número decente de cópias físicas foram vendidas também, então estou muito feliz com o desempenho até agora.
7. Na sua região existe suporte significativo para a música que você escreve ou é na internet a melhor forma de divulgá-la?aqui no Brasil infelizmente a grande mídia não apóia o Rock, vemos rádios e televisões que preferem apostar em coisas acessíveis e às vezes até duvidosos estilos, alguns estilos são até proibidos porque são desculpas por atos errados, mas felizmente o nosso underground é ótimo para o Metal e que une muito...
Acredito que não seja diferente em várias partes do mundo.
Existem algumas revistas e sites dedicados que ainda estão fazendo o seu melhor para apoiar a cena do heavy metal aqui, como Scream Magazine, HeavyMetal.no etc.
A internet tem sido uma ótima maneira de divulgar a música, e parece que há sem limites para onde você pode alcançar novos ouvintes. E claro, se não fosse pela internet eu nunca teria conseguido alcançar todos aqueles grandes músicos que apareceram nas minhas gravações.
Eu sinto que a cena underground tem uma abordagem mais genuína em relação à música, e isso vai especialmente para os fãs de heavy metal. A meu ver, não há outro gênero musical que tenha tanto apoiadores e fãs quanto este, e isso deveria ser mais importante do que qualquer outra coisa.
É uma pena que o mainstream seja apenas sobre o que vende melhor, mas é isso que torna o underground um lugar melhor para promover sua música, porque você se conecta a um público que realmente aprecia o que você faz.
8. O que você acha da distribuição do material digital?claro, tudo isso facilita, mas ainda gosto do lado físico, gosto dos encartes, dos DVDs, acho importante manter isso vivo, mesmo que nos dias de hoje os mais jovens não dão o devido valor, mas, você acredita que o mundo da música só será digital no futuro?
A alternativa digital é ótima para chegar a novas pessoas, mas concordo com você, ainda prefiro o produto físico.
Faço quantidades relativamente baixas de CDs e vinis, porque sei que muitos não se preocupam mais em comprá-los. Eu provavelmente não faria cópias físicas se não quisesse segurar o produto acabado em minhas próprias mãos, haha!
Não tem nada parecido, abrir uma capa de CD ou vinil e conferir o encarte, ler as letras etc., e essa é a experiência que eu quero com minha própria música também.
É mais do que apenas música, é uma jornada visual também.
9. Sou do Brasil e com certeza você deve conhecer nosso país, e acredito que goste de algumas de nossas bandas / músicos. Você tem públicos de muitos países?
Claro! Eu, como muitos outros, cresci ouvindo Sepultura, e na época da bateria, Igor Cavalera era uma grande inspiração. Eu nunca descobri muito mais do que aquela banda, mas eu percebo agora que provavelmente nenhum outro país no mundo tem tanto amor pelo metal old school e metal em geral como o Brasil.
É aqui que volto ao que disse anteriormente sobre ter uma apreciação genuína da música underground. Talvez a tradição de troca de fitas ainda esteja viva lá também.
Acredito que tenha algumas espalhadas pelo mundo.
Enviei algumas cópias de meus álbuns para a Alemanha, Áustria, Suíça e os EUA, e até mesmo para o Canadá.
Acho que a maioria dos meus ouvintes são noruegueses, mas, novamente, nunca se sabe...

Knowing new projects and being able to show someone is something very good and challenging, you go through a test and the band is also involved in this process, but as we are here to spread the word, this ends up being part of the strategy and the power that the media have for you to get to know new material.
Below, you can check out the conversation we had with the Moonscape project leader, Håvard Lunde, we talked about several cool things about his recently released album, among other things and curiosities.
1. Before we start, I want to know what it has been like to work in the midst of the pandemic and these adversities that have happened around the world? Did you ever need to stop all tasks with Moonscape?
To be perfectly honest, it has not made much of an impact on the process at all, other than having to find a replacement for a singer who was supposed to appear on the album, but had to forfeit his appearance due to the fact that the studio he uses to record his tracks was put under a lockdown, so he was rendered unable to record his tracks.
Since the new album was more or less already done when this whole pandemic started, I had the opportunity to write, record and release an acoustic track that came out back in May, as well as a couple cover songs that appeared on the "Resurgence E.P." in September.
2. The latest release is incredible and brought a great piece of technical metal with good melodies. What can you tell us about the creation and production process? I must say it looks great.
Thank you so very much! The typical writing process is just like any other, I guess. I sit down in my little studio space and start playing, trying to create riffs and melodies that I feel can form a good basis for something that can become even better later on.
To me it is all about making good ideas work well together. Since this album is a continuation of the debut ("Entity") from 2017, I wanted to revisit some of the ideas from that album, to try to bring the two albums together, musically, lyrically and conceptually.
The first one is more based around atmosphere, and this new one is slightly more direct, but I feel they work very well together. This was also the first time I mixed an album, so I was a bit apprehensive about how it would be received, but the overall feedback so far has been great.
3. You only have 4 tracks available and all were incredible, they have cool dynamics and creative moments. Did you ever imagine creating more tracks or were only these worked on and publicized?
My approach is perhaps a bit unusual, but it has become a very comfortable way for me to create my material.
I write and record everything as one continuous track at first, which means that basically I am just making one song per album. This is how "Entity" was made, and it was also the approach I used on this new album, except for the little symphonic intro.
I am a big fan of large scale compositions, so I would not mind having this album play as just one track as well, but I had already done that on the debut so I ended up dividing it into three tracks plus the intro. I think it worked out well.
During the making of this album I decided I wanted to release an EP as a kind of teaser for the new album, so I felt there was room for something a bit different. I recorded a couple cover songs and asked David Åkesson (Qantice) if he wanted to sing on them, and he seemed to love the idea.
One of them was a cover version of Domine's "Thunderstorm", and the other was my take on "Fairytale", the Eurosong winner from 2009.
Those two, plus the aforementioned acoustic track were the only other songs made during this recording period.
4. I can't help talking about the beautiful art that accompanies the record, and taking advantage, what are the main concepts of these tracks? And what is the connection with the art created?
"Entity" told the story about a person who finds himself unable to live in the real world as we know it, and shuts himself deeper and deeper into the dark corners of his own mind, as an escape from reality.
He finds shelter and safety in his own personal darkness, but eventually gets caught up by a long forgotten demon that has been lurking in his subconsciousness.
To put it shortly, it is a story about isolation, overcoming your demons and try to find a way out of the darkness and back to life.
As the new album title partially indicates, it is the continuation of the story from "Entity", but with a slight little twist. There are some personal experiences written into the story as well, but the events in the story are not entirely biographical.
"Illusion or Reality?" is my rendition of the journey that started with witnessing a close family member get struck by serious illness, going through that battle with them, and eventually see them fade away. The two final tracks are about overcoming loss, and once again, trying to find a way back to life.
The meaning behind the artwork is kind of two-sided. One is the idea of looking at the mind the same way as we look at space. We know that space still has a lot of areas that we have not yet explored, but what happens if we keep exploring the mind? What will we discover? That's an interesting thought, if you ask me.
The other reflects more upon parts of the album title.
A "cognitive dystopia" is a fitting description for the dark space in which the protagonist found himself in on the first album, and the "echoes" part could indicate that he has some unfinished business in there..?
The rest is up for the listener to interpret.
5. Do you intend to work on more visual promotions, such as videos that can further insert the audience into your musical immersion?
The thought has crossed my mind several times, but that is when you notice the downside of having 17 minute long songs, haha! I would love to see it happen, but I think it is a bit of a challenging concept to embark on.
Someone told me the concept would make a great movie, so maybe I should consider doing that instead? Haha!
6. Can you already get a sense of what the repercussions are like after the release? are you happy with what you are seeing in the current scenario?
I have had some great feedback on the album, and it seems like it is really going well. A lot of people have commented on "Illusion or Reality?", because they notice there are a lot of emotions in there, and I think that is what grabs the listener more effectively. I have had a good amount of track streams on Spotify and a decent number of physical copies have been sold also, so I'm very happy with how it has done so far.
7. In your region is there significant support for the music you write or is the internet the best way to spread it? Here in Brazil unfortunately the mainstream media does not support Rock, we see radios and televisions prefer to bet on accessible and sometimes even dubious styles, some styles are even prohibited because they are apologies for wrong acts, but fortunately our underground is great for Metal and that unites a lot ... I believe it is no different in various parts of the world.
There are a few dedicated magazines and websites that are still doing their best to support the heavy metal scene here, such as Scream Magazine, HeavyMetal.no etc.
The internet has been a wonderful way to spread music around, and it seems like there are no boundaries for where you can reach new listeners. And of course, if it had not been for the internet I would never have been able to reach all those great musicians that have appeared on my recordings.
I feel the underground scene has a more genuine approach towards music, and this goes especially to heavy metal fans. As I see it, there is no other music genre that has as supportive and appreciative supporters and fans as the this one, and that should be more important than anything else.
It is too bad the mainstream is only about whatever sells the best, but that's what makes the underground a better place to promote your music, because you connect to an audience that actually appreciate what you do.
8. What do you think about the distribution of digital material? of course, all of this makes it easier, but I still like the physical side, I like the inserts, the DVDs, I think it's important to keep this alive, even if in the present times the younger people do not give due value, but, do you believe that the world of music will only be digital in the future?
The digital alternative is great for reaching out to new people, but as with you, I still prefer the physical product. I make relatively low amounts of CD's and vinyls, because I know that many don't bother to buy them anymore.
I probably wouldn't make physical copies if I didn't want to hold the finished product in my own hands, haha!
There is nothing like it, opening a CD or vinyl sleeve and check out the booklet, reading the lyrics etc., and that is the experience I want with my own music too.
It's more than just the music, it is a visual journey too.
9. I'm from Brazil and certainly you should know our country, and I believe that you should like some of our bands / musicians. Do you have audiences from many countries?
Of course! I Just like many others I grew up listening to Sepultura, and back in my drumming days Igor Cavalera was a huge inspiration.
I never really discovered much more than that one band, but I realize now that there is probably no other country in the world that has such a love for old school metal and metal in general like Brazil. This is where I fall back on what I said earlier about having a genuine appreciation of underground music. Maybe the tape trading tradition is still alive there too?
I believe I have a few spread around the world. I have shipped quite a few copies of my albums to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the US, and even Canada.
I think the majority of my listeners are Norwegian, but then again, you never know...
