Falamos sobre o momento atual, novidades e outras curiosidades:
1. Tivemos uma pandemia muito complicada e que afetou muitas pessoas em nosso ambiente musical... Como vocês lidaram com isso?Depois disso, vocês estão estabilizando novamente?
Sim, a pandemia nos atingiu um pouco forte e afetou nossa moral. Tínhamos acabado de lançar “The Far Star” na época. Estávamos prontos para mostrá-lo ao mundo e alguns meses depois aconteceu a pandemia.
“The Far Star” envolveu muito investimento pessoal e coletivo e tínhamos grandes esperanças nisso. De qualquer forma, estamos de volta aos trilhos com “Ergo Atlas” e “The Far Star” nos bolsos!
2. Seu novo álbum é incrível, tem muitos elementos interessantes, ótima produção... Quais são as principais mensagens dessas músicas?
Obrigado! É importante perceber que “The Far Star” e “Ergo Atlas” são partes de uma história (ou como gostamos de chamar, partes de um “universo”).
Ergo Atlas" é sua sequência. E quero dizer história no sentido mais literal possível: na verdade, nós mesmos escrevemos a história e gravamos um audiolivro meu narrando a história com uma trilha sonora original (disponível gratuitamente em https://thefarstar.apotheus.net/).
“Ergo Atlas” continua onde “The Far Star” parou. É uma história de ficção científica, com elementos de viagem espacial, luta pela sobrevivência, inteligência artificial, cheia de reviravoltas e surpresas. Encorajamos todos a ler a história!
3. A capa do álbum é interessante... O que ela representa? Tem conexões com alguma música ou ideia específica?
Sim, tem! A arte foi feita por Nihil, e pensamos que ela representa perfeitamente o último capítulo do “Ergo Atlas”. É importante mencionar que cada música dos nossos álbuns é mapeada em um capítulo da história.
A obra de arte é uma ilustração do capítulo Re:genesis, no qual a humanidade se permite voluntariamente ser unificada com um ser superior. O interessante é por que fizeram isso e como chegaram a tal situação e a origem desse ser superior… Não quero estragar tudo para o nosso público, mas tudo isso pode ser descoberto lendo nossa história em https://thefarstar.apotheus.net/
4. Na minha perspectiva há uma evolução a cada novo álbum e acredito que esse processo seja natural, né?!
Você busca elementos do seu próprio passado para um novo ciclo ou tudo é feito no presente?
Uma questão interessante. Como você disse, sentimos uma vontade natural de continuar sempre melhorando a cada disco. E isso às vezes envolve a introdução de novos elementos, às vezes envolve a melhoria do valor da produção do disco, etc.
No entanto, não sinto que comecemos do zero em cada álbum. Tentamos ter um fio condutor entre cada registro, para fornecer alguma consistência. Às vezes, a história para a qual estamos compondo toma um rumo dramático e, nesses momentos, também sentimos a necessidade de mudar mais drasticamente.
Resumindo, tentamos equilibrar evolução com consistência e com muito cuidado, para não perder a identidade do Apotheus.
5. O que vocês acham do streaming?adoro material físico, ainda compro CDs, DVDs, LPs, K7 e isso infelizmente é limitado. Vocês acreditam que o mundo da música vai ganhar dinheiro com som digital ou as bandas ainda precisam investir em merchandising de produtos e camisetas?
Acredito que os bens físicos sempre terão lugar em um futuro próximo, principalmente os wearables (camisetas, moletons , etc). Os formatos físicos da música em si também são algo que os colecionadores ainda apreciam. Mas pude ver isso saindo de moda com as novas gerações no futuro. Parece que a renda que um artista ganha hoje em dia vem principalmente de shows ao vivo e vendas de mercadorias.
As pessoas não estão mais acostumadas a pagar por música. Vamos ver como a indústria continua reagindo a esta mudança, mas os artistas precisam de alguma forma de rendimento, seja qual for a fonte. A alternativa será de artistas pararem de fazer música porque não é lucrativo.
6. Ainda na conversa digital, o que você acredita ser crucial para sua banda chamar a atenção?Temos algumas gerações que só prestam atenção em coisas que duram alguns segundos no TikTok e não estudam o conteúdo ou conceito... Como ser relevante?
Isso é definitivamente algo que tem muito impacto para nós. Temos aspectos conceituais muito fortes em nossos álbuns, e sentimos que a maior parte pode ser perdida devido ao quão curto é o tempo de atenção dos ouvintes agora.
Ao compor músicas, procuramos estar sempre conscientes de que, mesmo que a música pertença a um conceito, ela também deve ter valor por si só. Para ser honesto, ainda estamos nos adaptando a esta nova realidade de períodos de atenção extremamente curtos, mas no momento, não acredito que esta seja uma tendência positiva para conteúdo artístico profundo e complexo.
7. Você pensa e insere elementos de outros gêneros na sua música? Acho que algumas dinâmicas com sintetizadores que você aborda são muito legais e isso não necessariamente vem do Rock, certo?
Definitivamente. Baseamos-nos em uma ampla variedade de gêneros. Na verdade, às vezes usamos isso como um dispositivo para contar histórias. Por exemplo, se o que estamos compondo é sobre uma guerra digital, usaremos mais elementos digitais (por exemplo, sintetizadores).
Se estivermos falando da fragilidade de um determinado personagem, usaremos melodias mais lentas e delicadas.
Nós temos alguns limites porque não queremos nos
desviar muito do nosso foco principal e identidade como banda. Mas sinto que essas fronteiras são muito frouxas e, em última análise, contribuíram para um álbum mais heterogêneo.
8.Somos do Brasil e amamos o Metal Europeu...
Vocês gostam da nossa cena Metal e desejam tocar na América do Sul?
Claro. Portugal, em geral, adora a cena metal brasileira. Acho que quase todo mundo aqui (inclusive nós mesmos) idolatra Sepultura, Soulfly e Angra (sim, acho que esses são os suspeitos de sempre, desculpe, aha). Também há grandes novos talentos vindos do Brasil.
Adoraríamos tocar na América do Sul. Já ouvi tantas coisas boas sobre o público dos shows ao vivo por aí!
9. O que vocês estão planejando para o próximo ano?
Quais novidades estão por vir?
Já estamos trabalhando no sucessor do “Ergo Atlas”.
Será outra sequência da história geral.

Também temos nossos próximos videoclipes para lançar. Cada música do “Ergo Atlas” terá um videoclipe. Ainda restam alguns deles para serem lançados. Também planejamos fazer uma turnê pela Europa. Já existem algumas datas em Espanha anunciadas, e outros países seguir-se-ão. O objetivo é solidificar nossa presença e base de fãs. Queremos que as pessoas precisem nos conhecer e, esperamos, que gostem do que veem e possam crescer em vários aspectos.

We had the opportunity to interview the Portuguese band Apotheus and you can now check out.
We talk about the current situation, news... :
1. We had a very complicated pandemic and it affected many people in our musical environment... How did you deal with it?After this, are you stabilized again?
Yes, the pandemic hit us a bit hard and affected our morale. We had just released “The Far Star” at the time. We were ready to show it to the world and a few months after, the pandemic happened.
"The Far Star" involved a lot of personal and collective investment, and we had high hopes for it. In any case, we are now back on track with “Ergo Atlas” and “The Far Star” on our pockets!
2. Your new album is incredible, it has a lot of interesting elements, great production...
What are the main messages of these songs?
Thank you!
It is important to realize that “The Far Star” and “Ergo Atlas” are parts of a story (or as we like to call it, parts of a "universe”). The story began on “The Far Star”, and “Ergo Atlas” is its sequel.
And I mean story in the most literal sense possible: we actually wrote the story ourselves and recorded an audiobook of me narrating the story with an original soundtrack (freely available at https://thefarstar.apotheus.net/).
“Ergo Atlas” continues where “The Far Star” left off.
It’s a sci-fi story, with space travel elements, the fight for survival, artificial intelligence, full of plot twists and surprises. We encourage everyone to read the story!
3. The album cover is interesting... What does it represent? Does it have connections to any specific songs or ideas?
Yes, it does! The artwork was done by Nihil, and we thought that it perfectly represents the last chapter of "Ergo Atlas”.
It’s important to mention that each song of our albums maps into a chapter of the story. The artwork is an illustration of the Re:genesis chapter in which humanity willingly allows itself to be unified with a superior being.
The interesting part is why they did it and how they got into such a situation and this superior being origin… I don’t want to spoil it for our audience, but all of this can be discovered by reading our story at https://thefarstar.apotheus.net/!
4. From my perspective, there is an evolution with each new album and I believe that this process is natural, right?Do you find elements from your own past for a new cycle or is everything done in the present?
An interesting question. As you say, we feel a natural desire to always keep improving on each record. And that sometimes involves introducing new elements, sometimes it involves improving the production value of the record, etc.
However, I don’t feel we start from scratch on each album.
We try to have a connecting thread between each record, to provide some consistency. Sometimes the story we’re composing for takes a dramatic turn, and at those times we also feel the need to change more drastically.
In short, we try to balance evolution with consistency very carefully, to avoid losing the Apotheus identity.
5. What do you think about streaming? I love physical material, I still buy CDs, DVDs, LPs, K7, and this is unfortunately limited. Do you believe that the music world will make money from digital sound or do bands still need to invest in product and t-shirt merchandising?
I believe physical goods will always have a place in the near future, especially the wearables (t-shirts, hoodies, etc).
Physical formats for the music itself are also something collectors do still appreciate. But I could see that going out of fashion with newer generations in the future.
It feels like the income an artist makes nowadays is mostly coming from live show deals and merchandise sells. People aren’t really used to pay for music anymore.
Let’s see how the industry keeps reacting to this change, but artists need some form of income, whatever the source may be. The alternative is for artists to stop making music because it isn’t profitable.
6. Still in the digital conversation, what do you believe is crucial for your band to attract attention?We have some generations that only pay attention to things that last a few seconds on TikTok and don't study the content or concept... How to be relevant?
This is definitely something that has a lot of impact for us. We have a very strong conceptual aspects to our albums, and we feel that most of it can be lost due to how short the attention span of listeners is now.
When composing songs, we try to be always aware that, even though the song belongs to a concept, it must also have value by itself.
To be honest, we’re still adapting to this new reality of hyper short attention spans, but as of right now, I don’t believe this is a positive trend for deep and intricate artistic content.
7. Do you think about or insert elements from other genres into your music? I think some dynamics with synthesizers that you approach are really cool and that doesn't necessarily come from Rock...
Definitely. We draw from a wide variety on genres. In fact, we some times use that as a story telling device. For example, if the thing we’re composing for is about a digital war, we will use more digital elements (e.g synthesisers).
If we’re talking about the fragility of a certain character, we will use more slow-tempo and delicate melodies. We do have some boundaries, because we don’t want to deviate too much from our main focus and identity as a band. But I feel that those boundaries are very loose and ultimately contributed to a more heterogeneous album.
8.We are from Brazil and we love European Metal...
> Do you like our Metal scene and do you want to play in South America?
Of course. Portugal, in general, loves the Brazilian metal scene. I think pretty much everyone here (including ourselves) idolise Sepultura, Soulfly and Angra (yes, I guess these are the usual suspects, right? sorry, aha). There is also great new talent coming from Brazil.
We would absolutely love to play in South America. I’ve heard so many good things about live show audience over there!
9. What do you have planned for next year?
What new things are coming?
We’re already working on “Ergo Atlas” successor. It will be another sequel to the overall story. You can expect something epic!
We also have our next music videos to release. Every “Ergo Atlas” song will have a music video. There are a couple of them left to release.
We also plan to tour Europe. There are already some Spanish dates announced, and other countries will follow.
The goal is to solidify our presence and fanbase. We want people need to know us and, hopefully, they will enjoy what they see and can grow in many aspects.
