Desta vez falamos com o músico Leon Marshall.

1 - Como você começou o projeto?
Eu comecei a tocar guitarra desde muito jovem (não que você possa dizer pelo meu nível de habilidade hoje!) e comecei a tocar em noites de microfone aberto e clubes de folk quando tinha cerca de 16 anos. Parei de tocar por alguns anos para estudar Arte e Escultura e então peguei o violão alguns anos depois e não o larguei de novo!
Tenho regularmente escrito, gravado e tocado desde então!
2 - O momento atual pode ser considerado o melhor para você?
Eu gostaria de pensar assim! Estou sempre tentando melhorar minha composição e apresentação de músicas, e espero que esse crescimento seja aparente quando você escuta uma das faixas que gravei há alguns anos, como 'Bad', o primeiro single que lancei em comparação com 'Going Nowhere' que acabei de lançar agora.
3 - O que você diria sobre sonoridade?onde mais você se encaixa nas influências adquiridas?
Eu diria que minha música tem um toque country-pop, recentemente fui descrito como o Dr. Hook conhece Jamie Lawson, e eu estou feliz com isso! Cresci em uma casa grande e sempre houve muitos estilos diferentes de música tocando pela casa, desde Dean Martin, Cypress Hill e The Sisters of Mercy, então acho que era inevitável que eu tivesse interesse em muitos gêneros diferentes e por isso minha lista de influências é interminável, Elvis, Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, a Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson, Luke Coombs… Eu poderia continuar para sempre!
4 - Falando em processo de criação, quanto pensamento existe antes de criar um novo material?existe um plano ou você deixa as ideias fluírem naturalmente?
Eu frequentemente farei uma letra quando estou fora de casa e a mantenho até eu voltar para o meu estúdio em casa, e então começar a trabalhar a partir daí.
Geralmente é uma letra que vem primeiro, eu acho que tendo os melhores resultados quando deixo as ideias fluírem naturalmente para começar, e então, quando ideias suficientes forem lançadas, vou trabalhar de volta para ter certeza de que fica bem.
Acho que se você tem um plano traçado desde o início de uma música, é menos provável que você se desvie e deixe sua criatividade se desenvolver.
Recentemente, ao folhear meu livro de canções, percebi que estava quase cheio de refrões sem versos e versos sem gancho, então adotei uma nova regra agora que sempre tenho que terminar uma música se eu começar, mesmo que acaba sendo uma porcaria, sempre posso afinar depois, mas sempre termino.
5 - Você já pensou em tocar aqui na América do Sul?o público no Brasil é muito apaixonado por música!
Eu adoraria tocar no Brasil, ouvi dizer que é sempre um bom público no Brasil ... e também que a comida brasileira é incrível! Boa multidão e boa comida ... o que mais se poderia pedir!
6 - Sabemos que o mercado musical não é mais o mesmo... o que é preciso para se manter atualizado e relevante?
É muito importante no mundo de hoje se manter ativo nas redes sociais, as pessoas passam muito tempo nas redes sociais, então você também precisa! É algo que costumo dizer, no entanto, não estou nem perto de ser ativo o suficiente em minhas contas!
7 - Você gosta da ideia de lançar vídeos em formato lírico?
Sim, eu acho que eles são ótimos, com streaming dominando o mercado, já se foram os dias em que você tinha as letras impressas dentro da capa do álbum, então um vídeo com letra é uma ótima maneira para os fãs realmente entenderem a música, entenderem as letras e se divertirem em um novo nível.

1 - How did you start the band?
I started playing guitar from a young age (not that you can tell from my skill level today!) and I started gigging at local open mic nights and folk clubs when I was about 16.
I stopped playing for a few years to study Art and Sculpture and then picked the guitar back up a few years later and haven’t put it down again!
I’ve been regularly writing, recording and gigging since!
2 - Can the current moment be considered the best of the band?
I’d like to think so! I’m always trying to improve my song writing and performing, and hopefully that growth is apparent when you listen back to one of the tracks I recorded a few years ago like ‘Bad’ the first single I released compared to ‘Going Nowhere’ that I’ve just released now.
3 - What would you say about sonority?Where else do you fit into the acquired influences?
I’d say my music has a Country-Pop kind of feel to it, I’ve recently been described as Dr Hook meets Jamie Lawson, and I’m happy with that!
I grew up in quite a large household and there were always lots of different styles of music playing around the house, ranging from Dean Martin, to Cypress Hill to The Sisters of Mercy, so I think it was inevitable that I’d have an interest in many different genres and so my list is of influences is endless, Elvis, Fleetwood Mac, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, to Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson, Luke Coombs…I could go on forever!
4 - Speaking of creation process, how much thought is there before creating new material? Is there a plan or do you let ideas flow naturally?
I’ll often come up with a lyric when I’m out and about and I’ll hang onto it until I get back to my home studio, and then I build on it from there.
It’s usually a lyric that comes first, I find that I tend to get the best results when I let the ideas flow naturally to begin with, and then when enough ideas are out I’ll work back over it to make sure it sits well. I think that if you’ve got a plan laid out from the start of a song, you’re less likely to deviate and let your creativity develop.
Recently when flicking through my song book I realised that it was nearly full of choruses with no verses, and verses with no hook, so I’ve adopted a new rule now that I have to always finish a song if I start it, even if it ends up rubbish, I can always fine tune it later, but I always finish it.
5 - Have you ever thought of playing here in South America? Audiences in Brazil are very passionate about music!
I’d love to play in Brazil, I’ve heard that it’s always a good crowd in Brazil…and also that Brazilian food is incredible! Good crowd and good food…what more could you ask for!
6 - We know that the music market is no longer the same ... what does it take to stay fresh and relevant?
It’s really important in today’s world to keep active across social media networks, people spend so much of their time on social media, so you need to too! It’s something I often say, however I’m nowhere near active enough on my accounts!
7 - Do you like the idea of releasing videos in lyric format?
Yeah, I think they’re a great, with streaming dominating the market, gone are the days when you’d have the lyrics printed inside the album cover, so a lyric video is a great way for fans to really understand the song, understand the lyrics, and enjoy it on a new level.

My new single ‘Going Nowhere’ is out now everywhere! It’s an upbeat feel good song about an old flame coming back into my life and wanting to get back together but me not taking the bait. She doesn’t like the song…but I think you will!
