Rock Vibrations Entrevista - The Malice (PT-EN)

Felizmente o projeto de trazer entrevistas internacionais está surtindo efeito, e agora, com uma banda européia chamada The Malice, onde o seu principal membro, Hubbe, comentou sobre vários pontos interessantes e que certamente farão com que você procure a banda para uma boa audição.

Vamos a entrevista (em português e Inglês) :

1 - Primeiramente, gostaria que falasse um pouco sobre como tudo começou...
R: O The Malice começou como um projeto em 2014.
A idéia era criar uma banda que interpretasse o estilo americano de death metal, como Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel, Deeds of Flesh, Origem etc. Eu entrei em contato com meu velho amigo Claudio, porque eu sabia que ele realmente tinha um ótimo "grunhido" com boa articulação, que eu realmente prefiro no death metal. Então eu perguntei se ele queria se juntar a este projeto, e ele disse "hell yeah!" Isso parece ótimo!

Então começamos a escrever e compor algumas músicas de death metal, e lançamos o EP "Malevolent Creature of Kings" com o single Envill, começamos a colaborar com instrumentos orientais e bíblica babimônica e sumério como um tema para o The Malice. Para tocar brutal death metal técnico com as harmonias e instrumentos orientais, e desenvolver o gênero ainda mais usando suas escalas, como as balanças de notas micro do oriente.

2 - A sonoridade deste último EP é fantástica.. Poderia contar um pouco sobre a produção e composição?

R: Obrigado, cara! Estamos muito satisfeitos com a produção de Ulf Blomberg nos estúdios de Hoborec (Suécia). Ele realmente fez um ótimo trabalho e entendeu como queríamos que o som fosse.
Eu queria ter um som claro e pungente, e ele realmente o pregava. Sobre a composição deste EP, minha visão foi o som "brutal e bruto", com explosões e ataques rápidos, mas ao mesmo tempo criou uma dinâmica com as sessões orientais, para criar a emoção da antiga Babilônia/Sumeria (que você tenha a sensação de que você participa de uma história) Para explicá-lo mais simples, eu vejo todas as músicas como um filme, com um começo e um fim, e a ação ocorre em diferentes sessões de cada música.

3 - Como é poder fazer um som tão extremo, mas ao mesmo tempo ter o equilíbrio mostrando técnica e feeling?
R: Eu acho que tem muito a ver com a produção.
O som que você tem em suas guitarras e também na bateria. Com uma típica distorção sueca de death metal como Dismember/Entombed, nunca teria funcionado. Quando você toca esses tipos de riffs, você precisa de uma distorção clara e pungente, e os tambores precisam ter um monte de ataque e desencadear, caso contrário, tudo será um maldito caos de sons e é difícil ouvir as sombras e as harmonias. Mas também tem muito a ver com a técnica, como você toca o instrumento e quão preciso você está em sua parte. Eu toquei diferentes estilos de música desde que eu fui para a escola de música aqui na Suécia como adolescente e acho que minha peça dessa maneira tornou minha parte mais ampla e dinâmica.

Se você ouve atentamente os riffs, eles também são baseados na perfuração e fraseamento oriental, e ao mesmo tempo muito típico do gênero Death Metal.
Eu quero criar riffs que são brutais no som, mas também têm um ritmo e melodia especiais para ele.

Eu adoro experimentar com triangulos e batidas diferentes neles e a música no todo. Eu acho que torna a música mais interessante e não tão previsível. Também é muito para fazer o que você prefere no som e na sua guitarra. Para mim, é muito importante em solos que as notas realmente saem com um bom fraseio e vibrato, e que você é um com a música. As sessões orientais que ocorrem neste EP são baseadas na tradicional peça de música oriental.

Tive a oportunidade de aprender esses instrumentos pelo meu amigo Nenos Sahar do Iraque. Ele é assírio e sua herança da Suméria/Mesopotâmia, de modo que foi realmente grande de muitas maneiras, mas também um desafio musical. Realmente tenho que pensar "fora da caixa" e entender as harmonias de uma maneira totalmente diferente. Para compor essas harmonias no nosso sistema de 8 notas do Ocidente, o sistema de 12 notas (micronote) deles pode ser bastante complicado, mas funcionou no final.

4 - Teria uma previsão para um álbum completo?pensa em investir em videoclipes?

R: Eu tenho materiais e idéias para um álbum inteiro, mas a maioria do trabalho criativo agora foi criar este EP Lamashtu e promovê-lo em todo o mundo em revistas, blogs, bandcamp, diferentes canais de metal etc. Mas para lhe dar uma resposta para um álbum completo, eu teria que dizer que, quando eu me sentar novamente no meu estúdio, um álbum emergirá definitivamente (risos). Engraçado que você mencione um video de música, porque tenho um amigo que está me ajudando com isso agora mesmo, então é ótimo e demais, e isso acontecerá muito cedo. Será mais um vídeo lírico promocional, e isso é algo que muitas bandas fazem estes dias devido às mídias sociais e ao efeito de chegar a muitas pessoas em todo o mundo.

Se depois tivermos finanças para fazer um verdadeiro vídeo de metal nas veias, gostaria que fosse como "God of Emptiness" do Morbid Angel, adoro esse vídeo. Bem, isso seria ótimo!

5 - Como tem visto o apoio às bandas por aí?o público comparece para ajudar as bandas iniciantes?
R: Toda a indústria da música mudou muito desde o início deste milênio, quando basicamente a maioria das pessoas atualmente transmite sua música.
Com isso dito, devo dizer que a resposta que recebemos dos "metalheads" e dos nossos fãs é fantástica. Muitos caras neste gênero de metal extremo apoiam as bandas e compram suas coisas.

Eu acho que também tem que fazer que eles conheçam o esforço, o tempo e o trabalho que você realmente colocou para criar esse tipo de música. Mesmo que a cena do Death Metal seja maior hoje e mais apreciada em todo o mundo, ainda é uma pequena cena se você compara a cena da música popular. Mas, em geral, acho que o suporte foi ótimo, já que somos uma banda independente sem rótulo para o momento e para todos. E o por que escolhemos fazer este EP para download digital é mais do que a maioria das pessoas não compra cds naquela quantia, como costumava fazer. Os colecionadores ficam entre si com coisas que já possuem, então, para esse grupo, acho que não é a resposta. A outra questão é que, se você for fazer uma imprensa física, você precisa de finanças, e sabe que você vai se equilibrar nas vendas. É por isso que fizemos esta decisão essa vez.

6 - Qual seria no momento o maior desejo com a banda?
R: Bem, é um monte de coisas que você deseja! Primeiro é ser reconhecido pela cena de metal e tocar ao vivo em todo o mundo. Como uma banda. Hoje é só eu e Claudio, mas usaremos músicos de sessão para esse tipo de eventos. Como a banda Satyricon e outros fazem estes dias. Eu sempre tenho uma visão com as faixas que compor e é assim que eu quero.

Ele tem muito a fazer isso quando você está nessa posição, você pode controlar o resultado de outra forma quando você escreve e compõe, e eu tenho uma ótima rede de fantásticos músicos que nos ajudarão, então isso é ótimo. A outra coisa que desejamos é encontrar um rótulo que acredite em nós e nosso som, que podemos fazer um acordo que seja bom para nós dois. Nós conseguimos algum tipo de negócios com rótulos, mas não foi nada que realmente possamos fazer por nós mesmos. Isso realmente facilitaria as coisas se você tivesse um rótulo/gerenciamento para ajudá-lo com fundos para fazer um álbum inteiro com todas as coisas que um ótimo álbum precisa. Tal como excelente produção, cobertura, layout etc.

7 - Conhece ou gosta de alguma banda brasileira?se sim, nos diga qual ou quais...
R: Vocês tem muitas grandes bandas! Um dos meus primeiros discos que comprei foi "Beneath the Remais" do Sepultura, e esse disco é "fodidamente Rock", juntamente com os outros álbuns! Mestres do Thrash Metal!
A banda de death metal Krisiun é realmente boa.
É muito cru, escuro e agressivo, de modo que realmente me fala de muitas maneiras. Sua cena em metal progressivo também é muito boa com bandas como Ayreon e Almah (o baixista é um amigo meu). Músicos e música muito bons. 

A última banda que descobri do seu país foi a Nervosa! Foda-me! Foi um amor instantâneo quando as ouvi. Este som da velha escola thrash metal misturado com alguns dos primeiros death metal como Death and Possessed!

Então, elas são um dos meus novos favoritos, e estou ansioso pelo seu novo álbum no qual estão trabalhando. Eu escutei uma banda quando era mais jovem chamado Torture Squad, mas não sei se eles tocam mais uma música bruta!

8 - Com o avanço da Internet, é possível dizer que as mídias físicas realmente estão perdendo espaço, ou você acredita que é possível mediar estes dois lados?
R: Bem, como eu disse antes, toda a indústria mudou muito, mas acho que você só precisa aceitar como é hoje em dia e ser criativo e encontrar formas que o beneficiem. O engraçado é que as vendas de vinil aumentaram bastante nos últimos anos, então é bastante bom ter um registro em suas mãos. O ritual inteiro para sentar-se lá com ele em seu colo e seguir as letras e "headbangear" para ele. E o que é visto é que não é apenas um registro que você compra.

Pode ser uma biografia para o registro, cartazes ou patches, um pacote com uma camiseta, Um código de download quando você compra um registro físico para algum outro material ou um dvd. Vá com o fluxo e siga o desenvolvimento, e encontre algo único. Eu tenho muitas idéias sobre isso, então a resposta é que você precisa encontrar maneiras. Mas também fale para os fãs e outras pessoas que fazem música com boa produção e cobrir o dinheiro dos custos, e se todas as pessoas não querem comprar para isso, o resultado final do produto não terá qualidade. "Estou totalmente certo para comprar sua cerveja, mas a música deve ser gratuita".. Isso sugere que você tenha que se dizer o que você valoriza.

A música é importante para ajudar você a permanecer vivo e contribuir com a grande cultura como o metal é!

9 - Existe muita concorrência com outras bandas do mesmo estilo ou costumam se ajudar sempre?
R: Eu acho que é tão "maldito e infantil" se as pessoas vêem isso como uma competição. Como você pode competir em música? Eu vejo metalheads como meus irmãos e irmãs, não importa em que gênero você está. Pode ser qualquer coisa do power, do black, doom, death, progressivo, não importa. Somos todos de família! Se você está tentando escrever música para as massas, porque você quer ser famoso, você sempre falhará e perderá. Sempre deve fazer o seu.

O que você gosta e o que você pensa ser bom é honesto em sua criatividade. Sempre serão as pessoas que amam e odeiam o que você faz, é a vida. Não pode deixar ninguém. Mas o que eu vejo no gênero em que tocamos, é realmente suporte. Nós compramos coisas de cada um, ajudamos uns com os outros com shows, comentários etc., e isso é algo que eu realmente amo sobre a comunidade de metal. 

Se você tem ciúmes em outras bandas, perderá o foco.

Se as pessoas dizem que o que você faz é merda, você deve ignorá-lo e pensar. Quem dá uma merda, eu gosto do que eu faço e essa é a minha maneira de expressá-lo. Você sempre encontrará "fodidos" com suas diferentes visualizações. As pessoas em geral são merda! Então fique perto de pessoas que te amam e ajudem você a sair!

Fortunately the project to bring international interviews is working, and now with a European band called The Malice, where its main member, Hubbe, commented on several interesting points and that will certainly make you look for the band for a good hearing.

Let's interview (in Portuguese and English):

1 - First, I'd like you to talk a little about how it all began ...
The Malice began as a project in 2014 . The idea was to create a band that plays the american style of death metal such as Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel, Deeds of Flesh , Origin etc . Ive contacted my old friend Claudio , because i knew he really has a great growl with good articulation, that i  really prefer in death metal . So i asked him if he wanted to join this project, and he said  Hell yes! That sounds fucking great! So we began to write and compose some death metal songs , and we released the EP Malevolent Creature of Kings , and later on the single Enlil . And with that single, we started to collaborate with oriental instruments and babylonic,sumerian mysticiscm as a theme for The Malice. 

To play brutal technical death metal with the oriental harmonies and instruments, and develop the genre even further by using their scales such as the micro note scales of the orient .

2 - The sound of this last EP is fantastic .. Could you tell a little about the production and composition?
Thank u man! We are very pleased with the production by Ulf Blomberg at Hoborec studios (Sweden) He really did a terrific job and understood how we wanted the sound to be. I wanted to have a clear punchy sound to it , and he really nailed it . About the compostion for this EP, my vision was the sound to be brutal and raw, with blast beats and fast kickdrums , but at the same time create a dynamic to it with the oriental sessions , to create the emotion of ancient babylon/Sumeria. That u get the feeling that u participate in a story. To explain it more simple. I see every song as a movie with a beginning and an end , and the action take place in different sessions of each song.

3 - How can you make a sound so extreme, but at the same time have the balance showing technique and feeling?
I think it has alot to do with the production. The sound u have on your guitars and also the drums. With a typical swedish death metal distortion such as Dismember/Entombed it would have never worked. When u play these kinds of riffs, u need a clear and punchy distortion , and the drums need to have alot of attack and trigger to it, otherwise it will all just be a fucking chaos of sounds, and its hard to hear the shades of the harmonies . But it also has alot to do with the technique , how u play the instrument and how precise u are in your play . Ive played different styles of music  since i went to the music high school here in Sweden as a teenager , and i think that my play in that way have made my play more wide and dynamic.

If u listen closely to the riffs, they are also based on the oriental drilling and phrasing , and at the same time very typical for the genre Death Metal . I want to create riffs that are brutal in sound but also have a special rythm and melody to it . I love to experiment with triplets and different beats in them and the music in whole. I think it makes the music more interesting , and not so predictable. It has also alot to to do what u prefer in sound and in your guitarplay. For me its very important in solos that the notes really sings out with a good phrasing and vibrato , and that u are one with the music.

The oriental sessions that occur in this EP is based on the traditional play in oriental music. I had the opportunity to learn these instrument by my friend Nenos Sahar from Iraq . He is Assyrian and his heritage  from Sumeria/Mesopotamia, so that has been really great in so many ways , but also a musical challenge . U really have to think outside the box , and understand the harmonies in a total different way,. To compose these harmonies to our western 8 note system, and theirs 12 note (micronote) system can be quite tricky, but it worked at the end.

4 - Would you have a preview for a complete album? Do you plan on investing in music videos?
I have materials and ideas for a whole album, but most of the creative work right now has been to create this EP Lamashtu , and promote it all over the world in magazines, blogs, bandcamp, different metal channels etc . But to give u an answer for a complete album, i would have to say that, when i sit down again in my studio, an album will emerge definetly (laugh) .

Funny that u mention a music video, bcz i have a friend that are helping me with this right now , so thats fucking great, and it will come out very soon . It will more be a promotional lyric video , and thats something that many bands do these days due to social media and the effect to reach out to many people all over the world . If we later have finances to do a real metal video in the veins of God of Emptiness with Morbid Angel , i love that video . Well that would be great ofc!

5 - How have you seen the support for the bands out there? Do the audience attend to help beginners?
The whole music industry has changed alot since the start of this milennia , when basically most of the people nowadays stream their music . With that said , i must say that the response we got from metalheads and our fans is fucking fantastic. Many guys in this genre of extreme metal do support the bands and buy their stuff. I think it also has to do that they know the effort, time and work u really put down to create this kind of music. Even if the Death Metal scene is bigger today and more appreciated all over the world , its still a small scene if u compare it to the popular music scene . But in general i think that the support has been great, since we are an independent band with no label for the moment and all. And why we choosed to do this EP for digital download is more that the most  people dont buy cds in that amount as they used to do.Well metalheads are collectors and always compete about their collection (Laugh) so for that group i think its not the answer.

The other issue is that if u are going to do a physical press u need finances , and know that u will break even in sales . Thats why we made this desicion this time .

6 - What would be the greatest desire with the band at the moment?
Well its alot of things u desire ! First is to be aknowledged by the metal scene and to perform live all over the world .as a band. Today its only me and Claudio , but we will use session musicans to these kind of events . Such as the band Satyricon and other do these days . I always have a vision with the tracks i compose and thats the way i want it . It has alot to do that when u are in that position , u can control the outcome in another way when u write and compose , and i have a great network of terrific musicians that will help us, so that feels great. The other thing we desire is to find a label that believes in us and our sound . that we can make a deal that fits good for us both.

We have got some kind of deals with labels, but it has not been anything that we actually can do for ourselves. It would really make things easier if u had a label/management to help u out with funds to make a whole album with all things that a great album need . Such as great production, cover, layout etc

7 - Do you know or like any Brazilian band? If so, tell us which one or ...
U guys has alot of great bands! One of my first records i bought was Beneath the remains with Sepultura, and that record still fucking rocks , together with the other albums! Thrash Metal masters!!!!
The death metal band Krisiun is really good. Its very raw, dark and agressive so that really speaks to me in so many ways . Your scene in progressive metal is also very good with bands like Ayreon and Alma (the bassplayer is a friend of mine) . Very great musicians and music. The latest band i discovered from your country is Nervosa! Fuck me!

It was instant love when i heard them .This sound of old school thrash metal metal mixed with some of the early death metal like Death and Possessed! So they are one of my new favourites , and im looking forward to their new album that they are working on. Ive listened to a band when i was younger called Torture Squad, but i dunno if they play anymore , but great raw music!

8 - With the advancement of the Internet, is it possible to say that the physical media is really losing space, or do you believe that it is possible to mediate these two sides?
Well as i said before , the whole industry has changed alot, but i think u just need to accept how it is these days and be creative and find ways that benefits you . The funny thing is that the vinyl sales has increased alot in the latest years , bcz its actually quite nice to have a record in your hands . The whole ritual to sit there with it in your lap and follow the lyrics and headbang to it . And what ive seen is that its not only a record u buy . It can be a biography to the record, posters or patches, a bundle package with a t shirt.

A  download code when u buy a physical record to some other material or a dvd. Go with the flow and follow the development , and find something unique.

I have alot of ideas about that , so the answer is that u need to find ways . But also tell fans and other people that make music with good production and cover cost money, and if all people dont wanna buy for that, the end result of the product will lack quality . U are totally ok to buy your beer , but music shall be free . It hink u have to tell yourself what u value. Is music important for u u will help it to stay alive and contribute to great culture as metal is !

9 - Is there a lot of competition with other bands of the same style or do they usually help each other?
I think its so fucking lame and childlish if people see it as a competition. How can u compete in music? I see metalheads as my brothers and sisters, no matter what genre u are in. It can be anything from power, black,doom,death,grind,progressive it doesnt matter.

We are all family! If u are trying to write music for the masses, becuase you want to be famous u will always fail and loose. U shall always do your thing .What u like, and what u think is good and honest in your creativity. It will always be people that love and hate what u do, thats life.

U cannot please anyone. But what ive seen in the genre we play in, is actually support . We buy each others stuff, we help out each other with gigs, reviews etc, and thats something i really love about the metal community.

If u are jealous on other bands, u will loose focus .

If people say that what u do is shit , u shall just ignore it and think. Who gives a fuck, i like what i do and this is my way of expressing it. U will always meet fuck ups with their different views . People in general is shit! So stay close to people that love u, and help u out!
