Through the partnership with Rogue PR we bring a new interview for you, the reader.
Check out our conversation with The Band Space Jam.
1 - How did you start the band?
SPACEJAM is the interplanetary meeting at the end of 2017 of three musicians at the peak of their Art and with impressive routes. Rich in their virtuosity and their experiences, they shared the biggest stages alongside THE CURE, BB KING, MANU CHAO… Backpackers, work enthusiasts and Rock'n'Roller at heart, onboard their space vehicle, they develop the algorithms of their repertoire.
2 - Can the current moment be considered the best of the band?
Yes and no, because the moment for artists is a hard time to live with and which offers more limited perspectives. Most concerts are postponed or cancelled. We have adopted a solution world strategy. We have set up a lot of things such as live streaming concerts and time to compose, create.
3 - What would you say about sonority? Where else do you fit into the acquired influences?
Our sound is a mixture of many influences acquired from our musical journey and our experiences. We have been doing concerts for over 30 years, but mainly I would say that we are a group with rather English sounds because these are my roots and they are deeply rooted in me forever!
4 - Speaking of creation process, how much thought is there before creating new material? Is there a plan or do you let ideas flow naturally?
I am the only Spider who writes songs I have cut the other spiders legs in the band, so they can't write! I don't remember what really inspires me, maybe it's all about love and hate and human feelings and stupid things like that I guess. You'll have to find out I'm afraid!
5 - Have you ever thought of playing here in South America? Audiences in Brazil are very passionate about music!
Yes and especially in Brazil. I know it's a country that loves European music as much as we love Brazilian music here. Brazil is a country that has always seduced me because of its cultural wealth, and also the history of its people. I am a big fan of Brazilian football, which is crazy it is the footwork of the players, they dance on the ground that's why they are formidable opponents.
6 - We know that the music market is no longer the same ... what does it take to stay fresh and relevant?
We know the music market is no longer the same ... what does it take to stay fresh and relevant?
I think it's bad for good. The music industry has not been able to start the digital shift and the model remains very vague regarding the copyrights paid by streaming platforms. We must rethink the economic model of the whole system, all together, artists and professionals in the world of music.
To stay fresh you have to stay in the action, constantly question yourself, find solutions and surround yourself with people from the music industry who support you rather than waiting for someone to do it for you and that's exactly what we do and we are fortunate enough to be well supported by our label The Animal Farm Music and their team.
7 - Do you like the idea of releasing videos in lyric format?
I do not really know what it is, but if it is a question of inserting the lyrics of the songs in the video, I do not see the interest, on the contrary, the spectator will have his eyes fixed on the screen to read song lyrics and won't even notice the story being told on the screen. It's a bit like watching a film in the original version with subtitles, you lose the thread of the story in the end.
8 - We finish here, the space is yours ...
We are working on new songs (I have another 30 songs in stock) and thinking of different ways to bring our music to our audience. I'm shooting the video clip for our song Stay Alive. I created all the sets and the story. I will direct and edit the clip for mid-June hopefully. You can find our new album TEN on all the current digital platforms and the CD is for sale on our website (WWW.SPACEJAMBAND.COM) as well as on our Bandcamp.(spacejam1)
